Session 03: HYDROGEN GENERATION AND STORAGE

Note: We assume all delegates attend the full 3-day conference. The times/dates shown on the website are tentative for conference scheduling, and subject to change before 20th July 2015, Final schedule will be confirmed on 21st July 2015.

Efficient means of storing hydrogen are a key challenge for the implementation of hydrogen as a universal energy carrier. Novel Material solutions are required to store sufficient amounts of hydrogen in terms of gravimetric and volumetric densities, at suitable thermodynamic and kinetic conditions. Advanced synthesis routes allow for tailoring of materials microstructures from bulk crystalline to nanostructures or even amorphous state. Simulations lead to a comprehensive understanding of physical properties and can define new strategies for materials optimisation. In addition, simulations can give insight into the behaviour of hydrogen storage tanks based on novel materials and allow for optimization of the tank design to meet the desired application property profile.

This session will cover all material and processes aspects related to hydrogen storage or compression, including recent advances in metal hydrides, chemical hydrides, adsorbent materials, as well as respective prototype tanks and their performance in view of promising applications, ranging from large stationary systems for storing renewable energy, over mid-size systems for zero-emission vehicles to small systems for portable electronics.
